Effects of compatibility of yeast peptide and surfactin on egg production performance of laying hens infected with avian influenza in a large layer farm in India

Abstract

This study was to evaluate the effects of the combination of yeast peptide (Halor Tid) and Surfactin (Surfa Tid) on the laying performance of hens infected with avian influenza. A total of 135490 laying hens were randomly divided into 1 control group (28,830) and 4 experimental groups (25000 in group 1, 26,660 in group 2, 25000 in group 3 and 30000 in group 4). Hens in control group were fed a basal diet. The trial groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 150 g Halor Tid + 100 g  Surfa Tid per ton. The pre-test period was 12 days, the trial lasted 45 days. The results showed that dietary supplementation of Halor Tid 150g + Surfa Tid 100g per ton could reduce the adverse effects of low pathogenic avian influenza on egg production performance, especially mortality rate.

Key words: yeast peptide, surfactin, egg production performance, mortality, avian influenza

1 Purpose

To test the effect of Halor Tid and Surfa Tid on the production performance of laying hens after infection with Avian Influenza, and provide technical support for applying products in poultry.

2 Material and method

2.1 Time and place

The trial was conducted in November 2023 on a large laying chicken farm in India.

2.2 Materials

Both Halor Tid and Surfa Tid are produced by Enhalor. Halor Tid is fermented from saccharomyces cerevisiae with 0.5% content and Surfa Tid is fermented from Bacillus subtilis with 5% content. The main functions of the two are to regulate the immune function of animals, anti-stress, anti-oxidation, and protect intestinal flora balance and mucosal structure  integrity. The former has the effect of inhibiting gram-negative pathogens (such as Escherichia coli), and the latter has the effect of inhibiting gram-positive pathogens (such as Clostridium perfringens).

2.3 Experimental design

A total of 135490 laying hens were randomly divided into 1 control group (28,830) and 4 experimental groups (group 1 25000,  group 2 26,660, group 3 25000 and group 4 30000). The hens in control group were fed a basal diet. The experimental groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 150 g Halor Tid + 100 g Surfa Tid per ton.

2.4 Feeding management

Laying hens were kept in three-dimensional cages and ate and drank freely. The pre-trial period was 12 days and  trial period was 45 days. After the trial began, the birds were infected with low pathogenic avian influenza.

2.5 Measurement indexes

Laying rate, laying quantity, egg weight, feed intake, feed to egg ratio, mortality.

3 Results

As can be seen from Table 1, compared with control group, the average laying rate, laying quantity and egg weight of experimental groups increased by 2.19%, 2.5g and 1.79g, respectively, and increased by 3.11%, 6.56% and 3.28%. Feed intake, feed to egg ratio and mortality decreased by -0.13g, -0.21 and -0.025%, respectively, and decreased by -0.12%, -7.27% and -34.04%.  These results indicated that the combination of Halor Tid and surfa Tid had a certain effect on the decrease of egg production performance caused by low pathogenic avian influenza, especially mortality decrease.

4 Conclusion

Dietary supplementation of Halor Tid® 150 g + Surfa Tid®100 g per ton can reduce the adverse effects of low pathogenic avian influenza on egg production performance, especially the mortality rate.

Halor Tid® is a yeast peptide developed by Beijing Enhalor Biotechnology Institute based on yeast fermentation platform. It can enhance animal immune function, improve intestinal health, inhibit pathogens, especially against pathogenic Escherichia coli, and is one of the effective alternatives for antimicrobial resistance.

Surfa Tid®, a microecological preparation surfactin with independent intellectual property rights, has been successfully developed by Beijing Enhalor Biotechnology Institute in collaboration with Tsinghua University. The product is prepared by using the natural strains of Bacillus subtilis that have been repeatedly selected, and by high density liquid aerobic fermentation, the strains are dried together with the metabolite subtilis surfactant. The use of Surfa Tid® in feed improves immunity and promotes better animal health.
